When the OurMumuDonDo movement stormed the streets to demand the repatriation of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, we were received and addressed by the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Adegbenga Aremu, who told us that efforts were being made to extradite the former minister back to the country to face trail for the massive allegations of corruption against her.
It is surprising however that since 29 August 2017 when we went to the EFCC’s headquarters, there seems to have been little or no effort made by the commission to work with the United Kingdom to repatriate Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke back to Nigeria.
According to the EFCC Acting Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, only about 15 percent of funds allegedly looted by Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been recovered. In addition, we aware that more than 60 properties belonging to Mrs. Alison-Madueke have been temporarily forfeited to the government of Nigeria.
However, at this time when our country is at the edge of a dangerous precipice and facing serious economic crunches, there is an urgent need for the EFCC to bring back the former petroleum minister so she can face trial for the $90 billion dollars she allegedly stole from the state.
The lethargy of the EFCC on this matter is disturbing and worrisome and that is why our comrades in the United Kingdom have embarked on another protest today to demand the extradition of the former minister.
What we are demanding is simple and short. We want the EFCC to work with the British government to bring Diezani Alison-Madueke back to the country so she can face trial and possibly reveal those with which she stole the state’s money and for all of them to be punished for it. If the EFCC cannot do this for Nigeria, then there is no need to continue to agitate Nigerians with the unending discoveries of huge amounts of money allegedly owned by the former minister. We are tired of the social media propaganda and we want to start seeing the dividends of the anti-corruption war.
God Bless Nigeria.
Publicity Secretary, OurMumuDonDo Movement.
